Give them "pumpkin" to talk about

Pumpkin Season

At this time of year, many thoughts - especially in young minds! - turn to Halloween and the joys of picking & carving pumpkins.

What you may not be aware of is that more than half of the 24 million pumpkins carved for Halloween in the UK in the next few weeks will not be eaten and almost 2 million will not even be composted, but instead will be thrown into normal rubbish waste (reported in The Guardian). It's certainly a missed opportunity!

Pumpkins used to just be grown mainly for carving but now there are a huge variety of culinary pumpkins that are incredibly flavoursome, with different textures for different cooking purposes, and even the flesh from those big carving pumpkins can, at the very least, be turned into a tasty soup.

We've been going a bit pumpkin crazy here of late, and have lots of new recipes to inspire your discarded pumpkin carvings to live on and be so much more. It's time to join the pumpkin revolution!

Have you ever heard of pumpkin spice? Our friends across the Atlantic LOVE this aromatic blend and use it for their famous pumpkin pies and pumpkin spice lattes. Well FYI, our very own Sweet Spice is the perfect alternative to use on British shores. Try it out!
