Cooking

How do I use Spice Pots?

Soften an onion with some garlic and ginger in a little oil. Stir in about 2 teaspoons of blend per person, add tomatoes, coconut milk or stock, then your meat, fish, veg or pulses. Simmer, and dinner is done.

They also make a quick marinade stirred into yoghurt, and they are great for seasoning soups, salads, samosas and traybakes.

How much should I use?

About 2 teaspoons per person for a curry, and a little less for marinades and seasoning. Every recipe tells you exactly how much. Like it hotter? Add a bit more. Prefer it gentler? Use a bit less.

Can I use a slow cooker?

Yes, our recipes work well in a slow cooker. Put root veg at the bottom as they take longest.

Recipe time 30 minutes: 6 to 8 hours on LOW, or 3 to 4 hours on HIGH.

Recipe time 35 to 60 minutes: 8 to 10 hours on LOW, or 5 to 6 hours on HIGH.

Recipe time 1 to 3 hours: 10 to 12 hours on LOW, or 7 to 8 hours on HIGH.

Why are the recipes for 4 to 6 people?

A curry for six takes hardly any longer than a curry for two. Cook once, freeze the leftovers, and a midweek dinner is already sorted.

Blends and allergens

What's the difference between the blends?

Korma: mild, with a gentle warmth. Very versatile.

Bhuna: medium, just six spices, big flavour.

Tandoori Masala: medium and tangy. Brilliant as a marinade.

Rogan Josh: medium.

Goan: hot and complex, and award-winning. Use less for the flavour without the heat.

Madras: hot.

Sweet Mixed Spice: no chilli. For baking, porridge and puddings.

Do the blends contain allergens?

Bhuna contains mustard seeds. Our other blends contain no listed allergens. Ingredients are handled in places that also handle other allergens, so we cannot guarantee there is no cross-contamination. Full details are on our Allergen Info page.

Are they vegan and gluten free?

Yes. All our blends are vegan and gluten free, with no added sugar or salt.

How long do they keep?

Check the best-before date on your tin. Blends stay safe to use after that, but the flavour slowly fades, so keep the lid on tight.
